ASEAN environment officials to meet in early August
8/2/2010 9:38:15 AM
The 21st meeting of ASEAN senior officials on environment (ASOEN-21) will take place on August 2-7 in Ha Noi. Nearly 150 delegates from ASEAN member countries and its partners, namely China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, will participate in the annual event.

The agenda includes the review of ASEAN’s environmental taskforces’ performance, and discussions on future directions of cooperation to address regional and international related issues.

ASEAN set up taskforces to deal with concrete environmental problems like marine and coastal environment, nature and bio-diversity preservation, trans-boundary haze pollution, water management, climate change, and education.

Viet Nam plans to organize a bio-diversity exhibition on August 4-8 on the sidelines of the ASOEN-21 to introduce the country’s biological abundance.

The ASOEN-21 is a preparatory step for the 2nd East Asia Environment Ministers’ Meeting in October this year.
